Bretzel Bakery
Their sourdough is even better than yours.
Bretzel Bakery
This year many of us tried making our own sourdough bread—and in the process found a new respect for our quality artisanal bakers.
Bretzel Bakery has been baking Dublin’s daily bread since 1863. This year they expanded from selling their award winning range of artisanal breads from their own Dublin premises to stocking national retailers in response to the sourdough boom.
They needed an identity system that spoke to their history, but also stood out in the busy retail space. We created a colour coded system to differentiate their various breads, using a palette of white with antique hues.
With a nod to the past we created a new logotype based on typographic elements from the bakery’s Jewish heritage. (Portobello was known as Little Jerusalem 100 years ago). As part of the identity we created a drawing of the original bakery and imagery that feels honest and uncluttered and heroes the humble loaf.
